Kristian House – A Little Ahead of the Rest (0)

March 28, 2009 • by Ed Hood • in Interviews

Kristian House (Rapha Condor & GB) is one of those riders who ‘looks the part,’ dark skinned and stylish, he just looks like he can win races.

When we heard about him riding very strongly in the pre season Bay Criterium Series in Australia, we thought we’d better ‘have a word.’

Rantings from San Remo (0)

March 22, 2009 • by Ed Hood • in Diaries

“Sanremo al debutto Cannonball fenomeno” says today’s La Gazzetta Sportivo – that’s its Sunday name.

“Cannonball,” every rider must have a nickname for the continental press, I suppose.

If he keeps up his line of progression it’ll only be a short while before The Mail is calling him, “Cava.”

Tom Southam – Enjoying the Best of Both Worlds (0)

March 15, 2009 • by Ed Hood • in Interviews

Amore & Vita, the sunshine and glamour of the Italian pro scene; scorching Australian road race championships; Girvan on a cold April Monday afternoon-Tom Southam has seen it all.

We caught up with the man with esoteric musical taste on a cold February afternoon-after he’d just done three hours.

Hugh McGuire (0)

March 11, 2009 • by Martin Williamson • in Editorial

Hugh McGuire, who has died suddenly of a heart attack aged 71, was the Glasgow-born Scot who became one of the top UK cyclists in the 1960s, representing both Scotland and the British Army. He took part with the best of GB riders in the Tour of Britain / Milk Race era, winning stages – and in so doing following the wheels of a slightly older top gun, Jimmy Savile. McGuire became noticed, and in 1962 and 1963, was selected to travel behind the Iron Curtain to participate in the annual Berlin-Warsaw-Prague road race, the co-called Peace Race designed by the Soviets to bring together the world’s top cyclists in reconciliation between Warsaw Pact countries and the West.

Super 6 – Round 1, Gifford (0)

March 7, 2009 • by Martin Williamson • in Race Reviews

Endura Racing tried to sign him for the coming year – they saw the sure potential, but the loyal Mike Nicolson decided to stay with Dooleys RT and took another step today towards realising that promise.

Attacking early on the first circuit of this 8 lap/65 mile “A” race around the East Lothian market town of Gifford with Paul Coates (now back with Squadra Via Mazzini – RaceTool Bicycles), and joined on the second lap by Collin Humphrey (Sports Cover), Nicolson drove the collaborating trio to a maximum lead of over 3 minutes with two laps to go, before sensing Coates was weakening and Humphrey was a danger. Deciding to go it alone, Nicolson finished in glorious solitude.

Gent-Gent & Kuurne Brussels Kuurne – Day 3 (0)

March 1, 2009 • by Ed Hood • in Diaries

Another beautiful day; I like the drive to Kuurne, if the weather is nice.

The fields, the canals, the rows of poplars, the old brick farm houses, counter posed by flat roof modernist houses.

The routine is well rehearsed at Kuurne – check the ‘B’ team car park at the sports centre, then up to the ‘A’ team car park at the start…

Here at VeloVeritas…

...we reckon cycling matters. We aim to provide our readers with truthful, interesting and unique articles about the sport we love.

We cover all aspects of cycling by actually being there, in the mix: from the local "10" to the famous WorldTour "monuments" - classics like Milan-SanRemo and the Tour of Lombardy, the World Championships, the winter Six Days, and of course the Grand Tours.

We attend many local races as well as work on the professional circuit - and we do it all with a Scottish accent.
