In a day of torrential downpours Joaquim Rodriguez (Katusha) secured his place in the history books as the first Spaniard to win the Giro di Lombardia 2012, with a beautiful solo victory ahead of Samuel Sanchez (Euskaltel-Euskadi) and Rigoberto Uran (Team Sky).

Giro di Lombardia 2012
Joaquim Rodriguez ends his season with a bang.

The wet weather played a significant role on the day, particularly as the riders negotiated the soaking and glassy, deisel-splashed descents, with several of them taking a tumble, most notably new World Road Champion Philippe GIlbert (BMC) who subsequently abandoned.

We didn’t manage to attend the race ourselves this year, but our pal Dave Martin (theBicycleWorks.com) did, and he has kindly shared his photos with us.

Paris-Roubaix. Hell of the north. The Queen of the Classics… Roubaix, Baixby! There is a great deal of hype out there about the latest and greatest event taking place. When it comes to Roubaix, the expectation and the event itself meet. This is a brilliant bike race!

Phil Young Memorial Time Trial

The recent Phil Young Memorial TT was a tremendous success. The weather was a bit cold and damp but it certainly didn't dampen the enjoyment of the field. Every rider in the race got a prize, and it was really nice to see the expression on the face of riders who have never won a prize before.
