Rob Wardell emailed to tell us about the first round of the Scottish Cross Country Mountain Bike Series which is due to take place in less than 3 weeks’ time, at Laggan Woftrax. Online entries are now being taken at EntryCentral. Riders who enter online at EntryCentral will also receive a £5.00 discount over postal entries and entries on the day.

For 2008 the SXC will also have a new timing system provided by Finishline, using a chip and number board system. This system will give accurate timing as well as each competitors individual lap times.

The 2008 SXC is set to be the best yet with the series taking in some brilliant trails at Scotland’s finest XC venues. The popularity of the series continues to grow with 2007 seeing thousands of competitors enjoying the thrill of XC riding in well-organised events.

If you haven’t sampled the ‘SXC experience’ yet there’s never been a better time to give it a go with categories to suit everyone from beginners to elite competitors.

Alongside the usual Cross Country races the SXC will also host an Under 12 Kids Race which will happen at each round at 1.00pm. This Under 12 Kids race is held on a separate, shorter, less difficult course than the other SXC races; but the racing is just as challenging and fun for young Bikers! The Under 12 Kids race is a fun event and open to all riders of all abilities and no need to pre-enter as this event is entry on the day only!

If you enter all 7 races you only pay for 6, but there will be entry on the day, unless the race is at full capacity of 350 entrants over all categories, at which point there will be no entry on the day. Get in quick so you don’t miss out.

Postal entries (with details yet to be released) will be available on www.sxc.org.uk soon.

Edinburgh Nocturne Criterium – Preview

A phone call from Craig MacLean the other day; "I'll be up in Edinburgh on Monday morning, to do some promo for the Edinburgh Nocturne races at the end of the month, fancy catching up?" For sure mate. And so I pottered along to the press launch of the Nocturne event today, which centered around an exhibition of roller racing, with the wonderful backdrop of Edinburgh Castle.

Scottish Hill Climb Championships 2010 – Preview

Promoted by Sandy Wallace Cycles, the Scottish Hill Climb Championships 2010 takes place on Sunday on the Purrin Den ascent in Fife, and around 35 hardy souls are preparing to put themselves through the seven minutes (and more) of pain it'll take to see the relay station at the finish...

Organising the 46th Davie Bell Memorial Road Race

Le Tour débute demain!

It’s that time, we go from being saddos to the ‘go to guys/girls’ for info; the papers even pay attention to cycling for a week or two; Viktor hates it but watches every stage and Dave Brailsford is spending a lot of time in church praying for ‘Froomey’s’ form to come good... yes, it’s Tour time. VeloVeritas will be bringing you a word or two each day about the greatest annual sporting event on earth.

Tom England – u16 French Champion in the Madison

For the first time in many a year VeloVeritas didn’t make it down to Grenoble for the Four Days on the battle scarred boards of the winter track where Post, Merckx, Sercu, Clark, Moser and Thevent have all lifted the laurels. How I miss Bar Clemenceau, Pizza Natalie and the wee bakers where the baker always give me extra croissants ‘for luck.’ ‘New Wave’ French strong men and World Madison Champions Morgan Kneisky and Vivien Brisse took the honours from tough Spaniards Muntaner & Torres with Iljo Keisse limbering up for Gent in third spot with countryman De Buyst.

Ben Swift Retains the British Men’s Road Championship

On a day when we watched hard men like Gran Piemonte winner, Matt Walls and Tro Bro victor, Connor Swift crack before our very eyes it was reigning champion, Ben Swift who extended his tenure in that lovely jersey from 2019 through 2020 and 2021 into at least June 2022.

Rob Palmer – Cannonale-Drapac’s Team Chiropractor

If you were around the Scottish race scene a few years back then you’ll remember Rob Palmer, he was at university up here in Bonnie Scotland – VeloVeritas mentor and Cycling Sage, Vik always reckoned that the man bore a striking to another Robbie – Mr. Williams. But our man isn’t into communicating with Aliens – unlike the ex-Take That man – not that we know of, anyway.

Training in Spain and early season Celtic Racing

Since the last blog training has been great and on the 14th Lindsay Gordon headed for Spain with every intention of doing a good solid weeks training in the mountains around Benidorm.
