On a cold and rainy Saturday afternoon in Gent, Rabobank’s Sebastian Langeveld took the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad 2011 victory by inches from breakaway partner Juan Antonio Flecha (Sky Procycling and the winner last year), with another Sky rider Matt Hayman third.

The Dutchman had ridden very aggressively throughout the race, attacking and getting clear with more than 55km still to race, to be joined by Flecha with 16km to go the line.

“I didn’t wait for Flecha but when he came back up to me I saw that he didn’t have much left in his tank.

“I knew that he would try to attack me, and I thought that if I could neutralize that attack I would have the mental advantage.

“It’s my biggest win, and I worked very hard for it, so I’m going to take my time and enjoy it.”

Deeside Thistle / Bikelife 25 Mile Time Trial

A dull and not very warm (6 to 7C) day, with little breeze for the Bikelife 25 today. Musselburgh RCC 3-Up TTT 2013 – theBicycleWorks Take the Win

East Lothian in springtime should be an idyllic setting for a bike race; but today she showed her spiteful side for the traditional east coast season-opening Musselburgh 3-up, with a freezing, grey day which granted no favours to the weak. John Anderson’s Bicycleworks 'tester trio' of Sharkey, Dale and Caesar proving strongest on the day. But one must remember that Scotland’s notorious cannibal, Sawney Bean was born in East Lothian – perhaps on a day like this . . .
