Revolution Track Meeting #40 – Glasgow

-

HomeRaceRace ReviewsRevolution Track Meeting #40 - Glasgow

To close off it’s tenth season, the Revolution Track Meeting Series made it’s first visit to the fantastic Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome in Glasgow tonight, and a full house of over 4,000 spectators witnessed the strong Rapha Condor JLT team take the win on the night to clinch the overall series title.

Undoubted star of the show, and not for the first time, was the big friendly South Yorkshireman Ed Clancy (Rapha Condor JLT).

Clancy led his team to victory by scoring personal wins in the Flying Lap and Points Race, the Madison Time Trial with teammate James McCallum, and taking a fourth place in the Scratch Race which saw Team Rouleur’s two new World Champion recruits, Steven Burke and Andy Tennant take the first two places.

It was German outfit Rudy Project RT with Nico Hesslich and experienced Six Day rider Christian Grasmann who pushed the Rapha outfit all the way, with only 16 points separating the two squads before this final meeting in the series.

However reigning Olympic and World Team Pursuit champion Clancy’s four sterling rides tonight (he only just made it into the points in the Elimination Race by finishing 12th), together with McCallum’s third place in the Elimination and superb teamwork in the Scratch Race, was enough to take the title.

American powerhouse Matthew Baranoski overcame the challenge of ex-Junior World Champion John Paul (Scotland) in the Sprinters Omnium event, in a popular contest which saw Scottish evergreen legend Craig Maclean and ex-multi World Champion Teun Mulder (Holland) taking the racing to the youngsters.

Alistair Robinson (Team Leslie Bike Shop) was the winner of a damp edition of the Tour de Trossachs 2010 on Sunday with a rapid 1:06:01, putting him two minutes clear of roadman turned clock basher for the day Robin Wilkins (Stirling BC); with evergreen Jim Cusick (Glasgow Couriers) rounding off the podium a further minute back.

Scottish Team Time Trial Championship 2008

Despite loosing roadman sprinter, Graeme McGarrity within ten miles of the start and short distance specialist, Gary Robson thinking that the finish would never come, Dooleys RT successfully defended their Scottish team time trial title on a dry but windy Saturday afternoon in the rich farmland of Strathmore near Forfar. Scottish ten mile champion and freshly crowned European Masters pursuit champion, Arthur Doyle did much of the work in ensuring the title stayed with Bob Taylor's band; ably backed by man who knows more about team trialling than most, former British Champion in the discipline, Dave Gibson.

Tour de Trossachs 2013 – it’s Gold for Goldsworthy

Nikolai Razouvaev on Why Riders Crash So Much

There have been an AWFUL lot of crashes in the mere couple of weeks since racing resumed – Kruijkswijk out of the Tour, Roglic out of the Dauphine, Jakobsen pole axed in a Polska finale, Remco over a bridge – and we could go on. When we saw this piece on the website of our amigo, ex-World Junior Team Time Trial Champion, Nikolai Razouvaev aka ‘The Russian Crank’ we thought he made some interesting points.

Berlin Six Day 2013 – Day Six

Everything is irrelevant on the final night at the Berlin Six Day, except the last chase – and it wasn’t a bad one. Going in it was Kalz/Bengsch topping the board – great time trial riders and strong in the chases – but a Six is almost always decided in the avalanche of points sprints in the final laps.

Peter Doyle – 1974 Rás Tailteann Winner

We spoke to Peter Doyle recently, the man from Wicklow who won just about everything there was to win at home, the Shay Elliott Memorial, the National Championship, the Tour of Ireland, the Rás and a raft of other single day and stage races.
